Recycle Like a Champion: Thanksgiving Recycling Tips
Please remove ALL FOOD that is left inside any container that will be recycled.
- Canned cranberry sauce or pumpkin purée: YES! Aluminum or steel cans are recyclable.
- Boxed pie crusts and stuffing mixes: YES! Cardboard boxes can be broken down and recycled.
- Egg cartons:
- Cardboard cartons YES!
- Foam cartons NO!
- Plastic egg cartons YES! if there is a recycle symbol on the carton. If not, toss it in the trash.
- Boxed turkey, chicken, or vegetable stock: NO! The combination of paper, polyethylene, and sometimes aluminum makes this type of carton non-recyclable.
- Plastic butter tubs: YES! If they are cleaned. Throw them into the dishwasher or clean with hot, soapy water before tossing them into the recycle bin.
- Wine/beer/soda bottles and cans, and liquor bottles: YES!
- Pie tins and aluminum foil: YES! If they are cleaned. Otherwise, toss them into the trash.
- Used paper plates, napkins, and paper towels: NO! The soiled and degraded paper fibers cannot be used to create new paper products. Throw these items into the trash.
- Plastic utensils: NO!
To be a recycling champion, always remember:
- Do not bag any recyclables – throw them loose into the bin.
- No plastic shopping bags in the recycle bin.
- When in doubt, throw it out.
