Building Department

The Building Department is responsible for issuing all online permits related to residential and commercial construction in the city. The department conducts all electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building inspections.

The department is also responsible for the maintenance and operation of city buildings and public property such as:

The Building Department educates property owners and tenants on matters of compliance with all applicable laws/ordinances including hazards of lead paint in existing housing. The Department enforces all applicable state and federal laws pertaining to food service, through systematic inspections of food establishments; and educates establishment owners and managers, as well as the general public, about safe and sound food handling practices.

The Zoning Board of Appeals second Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. and will be held in Council Chambers, located on the second floor of City Hall, 45 School St.
