PROCLAMATION DECLARING A TEMPORARY PUBLIC SAFETY CURFEW
WHEREAS, the City of Brockton is committed to protecting the lives, safety, and property of all residents, businesses, and visitors; and
WHEREAS, recent World Cup celebrations have resulted in incidents of reckless driving, illegal street gatherings, vandalism, assaults, fireworks violations, disorderly conduct, and other criminal activities that have endangered public safety and strained emergency response resources; and
WHEREAS, the Brockton Police Department, in coordination with the Brockton Fire Department and other public safety agencies, has determined that temporary measures are necessary to preserve public order, protect life and property, and ensure the safety of the community; and
WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the City to take reasonable steps to prevent further acts of violence and criminal conduct while allowing lawful celebrations to occur in a safe and orderly manner;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Moises M. Rodrigues, Mayor of the City of Brockton, by virtue of the authority vested in me, and pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 40, Section 37A, and any and all other applicable statutes, ordinances, and emergency powers, do hereby proclaim that a temporary public safety curfew shall be in effect as follows:
- Effective Date and Time
- Beginning Friday, July 3, 2026, at 10:00 p.m., a temporary curfew shall be imposed within the City of Brockton.
- Hours of Curfew
- The curfew shall remain in from 10:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m., unless modified or terminated by further proclamation.

- No patron shall be permitted entry or re-entry into any licensed alcoholic beverage drinking establishment after 7:00 P.M. Furthermore, “last call” for the sale, service, or delivery of alcoholic beverages at all such establishments shall strictly occur no later than 9:30 P.M.

- Purpose
- The purpose of this curfew is to protect public safety, reduce criminal activity associated with post-match celebrations, and enable police, fire, and emergency personnel to effectively maintain order and respond to emergencies.
- Exemptions
- The following persons shall be exempt from the curfew:
- Police officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and other first responders;
- Individuals traveling directly to or from lawful employment;
- Individuals seeking emergency medical care;
- Persons responding to emergencies or acting under official government authorization;
- Any other persons specifically authorized by the Brockton Police Department.
- Enforcement
- The Brockton Police Department is directed to enforce this proclamation in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and to take reasonable measures to ensure public safety while respecting the constitutional rights of all persons.
- Public Cooperation
- Residents and visitors are urged to celebrate responsibly, obey all laws, avoid unlawful gatherings, and cooperate with public safety officials to ensure that all World Cup celebrations remain peaceful and safe.
This proclamation shall remain in effect until rescinded or amended by further order.
