Tomorrow, June 9, 2026, Carmillia Jackson, MPA, MCPPO, Grant Manager for Brockton Public Schools, and Dr. Eliza J. Wilson, Director of Economic Development for the City of Brockton, will present at the 2026 Massachusetts Municipal Energy Summit as part of a customer case study highlighting Brockton’s steps toward building decarbonization.
Their presentation, “Brockton Public Schools: Leading by Example,” will share how Brockton is leveraging school and municipal infrastructure investments as a catalyst for economic development, workforce growth, and climate leadership. Building on its historic legacy as one of America’s earliest electrified cities, Brockton is advancing energy efficiency, healthy buildings, municipal modernization, and clean energy technologies to improve outcomes for students, residents, and taxpayers.
Through initiatives including school decarbonization, City Hall modernization, LED streetlight conversions, and strategic partnerships with National Grid, Mass Save, and state agencies, the City has secured more than $11 million in grants, incentives, and technical assistance.
Guided by the vision of Schools First: Infrastructure, Energy, and Economic Development, Brockton is demonstrating how investments in school and municipal facilities can drive far more than building improvements. By modernizing infrastructure, advancing energy efficiency, creating healthier learning environments, and leveraging strategic partnerships, the City is reducing long-term operating costs while expanding opportunities for workforce development and economic growth. These efforts help prepare students for the careers of tomorrow, strengthen community resilience, and position Brockton as a model Gateway City at the intersection of education, sustainability, and economic development.
