On Thursday, June 18, Brockton Council on Aging Director Janice Fitzgerald welcomed community members, Mayor Rodrigues, city and state officials, former COA Director Anne McCormack, representatives from state elder affairs, and city staff to celebrate the Mary Cruise Kennedy Senior Center’s 25th Anniversary.
The Center was built thanks to Mayor Jack Yunits receiving federal grant, opening its doors in 2001. Over the past 25 years, the Center has served the community through the leadership of seven mayors, while hosting hundreds of programs and events and serving thousands of members. In 2025, the newly renovated Mary Cruise Kennedy Senior Center was unveiled following a transformative renovation funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
The Brockton Council on Aging reflects the City of Brockton’s ongoing commitment to supporting its vibrant senior community. Through social, educational, and wellness programs, as well as access to essential services and resources, the BCOA helps older adults remain active, engaged, and able to age comfortably within the city they call home.
