Mayor Robert F. Sullivan

Robert F. Sullivan was born and raised in Brockton, MA.

He is the son of Robert and Susan Sullivan and grew up on Wellington Street in Ward two. He attended Brockton Public Schools (Whitman Elementary School, West Junior High School) and graduated from Brockton High School in 1988. He earned his BA and MBA at Boston College, and his JD at the New England School of Law.

Prior to being elected Mayor in 2019, he has served on the Brockton City Council as a Councilor-At-Large since 2006. In that role, he was elected by his colleagues to serve as the City Council President five times.

He previously served as a volunteer Board Member of the Good Samaritan Medical Center (2009-2019), the St. Joseph Manor Nursing Home, and the Brockton Historical Society.

He is a volunteer youth soccer, baseball, and basketball coach within the City of Brockton.  He is a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. He is married to Maria (Luizzi) Sullivan, who also grew up in Brockton, and they have three children.

Initiatives

Brockton Open For Business Initiative

Brockton Open For Business Initiative SignMayor Robert F. Sullivan has launched the “Brockton Open for Business” Initiative – a regulatory reform effort to make it easier to do business in Brockton - and will be embarking on a listening tour that will include visits to several city businesses. Community Justice Task Force

Following a pledge he took from the Obama Foundation and My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, Mayor Robert Sullivan formed a Community Justice Task Force in order to review police use of force policies; engage the community by including a diverse range of input, experiences, and stories; and report the review findings to the community. The eight members appointed to this task force by the Mayor met biweekly from November 2020 to May 2021 and provided the City with recommendations to address issues of racial inequity. Brockton Junior Cadet Program

Mayor Robert F. Sullivan and the Brockton Police Department teamed up to form the “Brockton Junior Cadet Program.” This program is the first of its kind in the City of Brockton and was among the 49 recommendations provided by the Community Justice Task Force to both improve and diversify policing in the City. Last night, Mayor Rodrigues attended his first School Committee meeting as the new Mayor and Chairperson of the School Committee The meeting was held at the George Romm Little Theater at Brockton High School.

Claudio Gomes, Ward 2 School Committee Member, was elected as the Vice Chair, replacing Ward 4’s Tony Rodrigues, who held the position for two years.

The Committee welcomed two new members: Stephen Pina, representing Ward 1, and Sandra Centeio, representing Ward 5.

Last night, Mayor Moises M. Rodrigues and Deputy Chief of Staff Nelson Fernandes joined Superintendent Dr Priya Tahiliani, Brockton High School Principal Kevin McCaskill, School Committee Vice Chair Tony Rodrigues, and School Committee Members Sandra Centeio and Stephen Pina at the 2026 National Honor Society Induction Ceremony for Brockton High School held in the Nelson Auditorium.

The National Honor Society is an organization that recognizes and encourages academic achievement while developing other characteristics essential to citizens in democracy. Every year, students are inducted based on their academic achievements, character, leadership, and service to the community.

Mayor Rodrigues congratulates the students who were inducted last night. Their outstanding achievements set a bright example and illuminate the path to Brockton’s future.
