Celia Canavan joined the Mayor’s Office as the Policy/Intergovernmental Affairs Associate in December 2023. A Brockton native, Celia graduated from Brockton High in 2019, and attended the University of Maine at Farmington, where she majored in Political Science and received a minor in International and Global Studies. During her time in Maine, Celia was a celebrated community organizer, and was recognized by Secretary of State Shenna Bellows for her work in voter registration and voter turnout, testified in the Maine State Legislature for voter protection and tribal sovereignty, and assisted in developing new youth voter engagement programs with different nonprofit organizations. Celia’s activism was recognized across the country as part of her work to encourage change in the public higher education financing system, rank choice voting, gun violence prevention, and through initiatives to combat environmental issues. and engage in community action. Celia returned to Brockton upon graduation to serve on a ballot initiative to assist in increasing access to mental health treatment.
