Brockton has a variety of programs, activities and services available for youth. Open spaces and athletic leagues provide fitness and sportsmanship opportunities for young people, while the Brockton Mayor’s Youth Council offers an avenue for service and leadership.

Youth can make a difference. But first they need a voice. That means being organized and prepared for action. An effective way to make change and impact our community is through Youth Council.

Brockton Youth Council represents a practical way of enabling our young people to have a meaningful role in helping to solve community problems and share their voice.

Youth Employment

Working Papers

Working papers may be obtained at the Brockton Public Schools' administrative offices at 43 Crescent St. between 2 and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Working papers are only allowed to be issued to students during non-school hours, but you can also during vacation weeks or in the summer (8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.). Here are the guidelines as provided through the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office (which oversee the young workers' program).

YouthWorks Brockton

YouthWorks, located at 34 School St., in the Rockland Trust Building offers a variety of employment services for teens and young adults including: connecting teens and young adults to job training programs, post-secondary education, employment resources and GED programs; personalized career counseling, workshops, supportive services and referrals; mentoring youth to help them stay in school; and introducing youth to careers through referrals to job shadowing opportunities, tours, guest speakers, career interest exploration, summer jobs and internships.

The Boys & Girls Club of Brockton (BGCB) was founded in 1990 to create a positive place for the youth of Brockton, Massachusetts. Today we serve more than 1,500 youth ages 5-18 annually through our mission to nurture strong minds, healthy bodies, and community spirit through youth driven, quality programming in a safe and fun environment.

Brockton's Promise

Brockton’s Promise: The Alliance for Youth works toward providing all youth, and their families in the City of Champions with the tools they need for success. Started in 2003, and modeled after America's Promise, Brockton’s Promise focuses on five “promises”: caring adults, safe places, a healthy start, effective education, and the opportunity to help others. Brockton After Dark

For over 10 years as a City of Brockton Program, Brockton After Dark provides athletic and enrichment opportunities to youth, ages 13-20, at no cost, weekday evenings throughout the summer.

In 2010, Brockton After Dark added a service learning component called Champions of Change.  The weekly program introduced youth to various local service agencies, ways they could become involved, and led them to find their own ways to further the agency’s mission in Brockton.
