Summary
This week, we feature Brockton Police Sergeant Nichole Anderson for Women's History Month.
Brockton Police Sergeant Nichole Anderson is a dedicated public servant and lifelong resident of the City of Champions. She grew up in the Battles Farm neighborhood, now known as Greenwoods, where she first developed her deep connection to the Brockton community. Nichole attended Raymond Elementary School and North Middle School before graduating from Cardinal Spellman High School.
Sergeant Anderson has proudly served with the Brockton Police Department for nearly two decades. On April 26, 2024, she was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and currently serves in the department’s Community Engagement Division. In this role, she works closely with Lieutenant William Schlieman and Officer Derek Salamone to strengthen relationships between the Brockton Police Department and the community it serves.
Sergeant Anderson plays a key role in developing and coordinating community-focused initiatives that foster trust, collaboration, and positive engagement between residents and law enforcement. She oversees several signature programs and events including the Brockton Police Department Citizens Police Academy (now accepting applications for this spring), Youth Academy, Battle of the Badges, the First Responder Community Jamboree, the department’s Annual Winter Wonderland, which takes place during Brockton’s Holiday Parade and Celebration, and the “Shop with a Cop” program in partnership with Walmart. She also actively participates in community forums and outreach events such as Coffee with a Cop, the Brockton Council on Aging Women’s Circle, safety awareness forums, and police cadet recruitment initiatives.

A historic milestone in her career came when Sergeant Anderson became the first African American female Sergeant in the history of the Brockton Police Department. She carries this distinction with humility and pride, recognizing the importance of representation and leadership in public service. The picture to the left is Sergeant Anderson with her daughter on the day she was sworn in as sergeant.
Sergeant Anderson’s passion for law enforcement is deeply rooted in family legacy. Her late father, Boston Police Officer Berisford Wayne Anderson, was tragically killed in the line of duty in 1994. His service and sacrifice inspired her commitment to policing and continue to guide her dedication to protecting and serving others.
Through her leadership, service, and community involvement, Sergeant Anderson remains committed to strengthening partnerships, empowering youth, and helping make Brockton a safer and more connected community.
Beyond her professional role, Sergeant Anderson is deeply grounded in her faith and values the support of the community that helped shape her journey. She is also the proud mother of a remarkable young daughter who serves as her daily inspiration.
The City of Brockton proudly honors Sergeant Nichole Anderson for her dedication to public service and her steadfast commitment to our community. By choosing to serve with the Brockton Police Department, Sergeant Anderson exemplifies what it means to be deeply invested in the city she serves. She also shares her warm spirit and sparkling personality with everyone she meets in our community.
The next time you attend one of the Police Department’s special events, be sure to say hello to Sergeant Anderson. She’ll likely be the one smiling, welcoming you, and helping guide you exactly where you need to be.
Sergeant Anderson, the City of Champions is proud of you and we know your dad is too.
