The City of Brockton Department of Public Works will be replacing the existing Newbury Street bridge over the Salisbury Brook. The work will begin in March 2026 and last through October 2026.
As voted by the Brockton Traffic Commission on May 15, 2025, the following restrictions will be in place during construction:
• NO PARKING: along Ellsworth Street between North Arlington Street and Newbury Street
• NO PARKING: on Newbury Street near Ellsworth Street to West Elm Street
• DETOUR: the intersection of Ellsworth Street and Newbury Street will be closed and traffic detoured
The Newbury Street Bridge/culvert was previously categorized as “structurally deficient” by MassDOT, which prompted the replacement project. The culvert replacement is underground, but you will see new paving and sidewalks in the vicinity of Newbury Street at Ellsworth Street.
