Once the snow emergency is in effect, vehicles parked on any street or major roadways may be ticketed or towed to allow for snow clearing operations. The City urges residents to comply with all snow regulations and encourages drivers to avoid unnecessary travel.

City and School Closures
Brockton City Hall and all non-public safety municipal offices will be closed on Monday, February 23 and Tuesday, February 24. Online services will remain available.
Brockton Public Schools will be closed on Monday, February 23 and Tuesday, February 24. All school-related activities, athletics, and programs on those days are canceled.
Trash and Recycling
Trash and recycling collection will be on a one-day delay beginning Monday, February 23. Residents should place carts out according to their adjusted collection schedule. Please keep carts off the sidewalk during the storm.
Mayor’s Statement
“Our city crews are preparing for the storm and will be working around the clock to keep Brockton safe. This storm will be worse than the storm we had in January,” said Mayor Rodrigues. “We may have power outages and there will be low visibility for a significant portion of the storm. We urge residents to remain indoors whenever possible, check in on neighbors and loved ones, and avoid traveling on the roads so emergency responders and public works crews can carry out their work safely and efficiently.
Snow Emergency and Parking Regulations
A snow emergency parking ban has been declared beginning at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 22. The ban will be in effect on all city streets, and vehicles in violation may be towed to support snow removal and emergency response efforts.
Residents are encouraged to park in the following free municipal lots while the parking ban is in effect:
- Warren Avenue Lot (West Side between Belmont and Bartlett Streets)
- South Street Lot (South Side, South Street near Main Street, behind the Gas Station)
- Howard School – 837 N Main St
- Whitman School – 25 Manomet St
- Edgar’s Playground – Dover St
- Adams Parking Garage – 42 Crescent St
Public Works and Storm Response
The Brockton Department of Public Works will have crews and equipment deployed to treat roads prior to snowfall and will continue plowing and sanding operations throughout the storm. Crews will prioritize main roads, emergency routes, and public safety locations.
City departments remain in coordination to monitor conditions and respond as needed.
Snow Safety Tips
- Shoveling snow requires significant physical exertion. Take frequent breaks and stop immediately if you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, or vomiting. Call 911 if symptoms persist.
- Snow piles may reduce visibility at intersections. Drivers and pedestrians should use extra caution.
- Clear fire hydrants near your home or business to ensure access for emergency responders.
- Never leave children unattended in idling vehicles during snow removal.
Carbon Monoxide and Heating Safety
- Never use grills, ovens, or other non-approved devices to heat your home.
- Ensure carbon monoxide detectors are working and installed on every level of your home.
- Clear all exhaust vents, including those for heating systems and dryers, of snow and ice.
- Do not run vehicles in enclosed or snow-blocked areas.
Extreme Cold and Home Safety
- Dress in layers and limit time outdoors during severe cold.
- Keep water flowing to prevent frozen pipes and insulate exposed plumbing.
- Never use open flames to thaw frozen pipes.
- Contact a licensed professional if you experience heating or plumbing issues.
Assisting Individuals Experiencing Homelessness
If you see someone outdoors who appears immobile, disoriented, or inadequately dressed for the cold, please call 911. Local outreach providers and emergency services are available to assist individuals in need of shelter during severe weather.
