What does the Women’s Commission do?
The Women’s Commission serves as a central resource within the community for addressing issues affecting women. We provide information, referrals, guidance, and coordination among public agencies, private individuals, organizations, and institutions engaged in efforts to support women.
We focus on addressing a wide range of concerns including prejudice and discrimination based on gender or minority status, sexual and gender-based harassment, domestic violence, access to childcare and healthcare, pay equity, prenatal care, sexual assault, and teenage pregnancy.
As a commissioner, your duties will include the following:
🔹Ensuring equal status of women in educational, economic, political, health, legal and social spheres
🔹Designing programs that promote equality for all women in the City
🔹Developing policy recommendations to all departments, divisions, and agencies of the City, including the Mayor and the City Council
🔹Coordinating activities of all departments and divisions of City government on issues affecting women
🔹Recommending legislation that promotes equal status of women on the City, State, and Federal levels, and assuring that appropriate regulations are adopted and enforced pursuant to such legislation.
