Outdoor Afro DW Park Clean-Up
April 23 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pmFree
Join Outdoor Afro for Earth Week! We’re enjoying a remixed happy hour – we’re cleaning up DW Park in Avon/Brockton.
This space holds special meaning to me. It’s one of the first places I ran cross country as a kid, along with Franklin Park, and has provided a lot of peace of mind and comfort during the pandemic. I love seeing the multitude of people from Black cultures and various ages enjoying the space…
…but not the trash. We’ll walk around Waldo Lake, up to 2 miles, which connects to the Brockton Reservoir. In addition to time with the geese, ducks and swans, we’ll talk and safely pick up trash as we go. Hopefully we’ll inspire others to pack out their trash as we work together!
I’ll have snacks, trash bags, and backup gloves for everyone. I have a few trash grabber-tool-things to share, too. Yay to snacks!!
What to wear/bring:
– water in a reusable bottle
– layers (temps will drop a bit at sunset)
– Hiking boots, sneakers or other closed-toe walking shoe
– Sturdy gloves for picking up trash (like a utility or construction glove)
– Trash poke or grabber (optional)
– Hat and sunglasses (optional)
– Rewarding beverage for the end!
Please make sure to review the Outdoor Afro liability and release waiver so we can start this event on time: www.outdoorafro.com/waiver
This event will be postponed in the case of rain.
There are multiple entrances. Please park at the golf course parking lot, off of Oak Street near the Fuller Art Museum. We’ll meet there.
Did I mention I’ll bring snacks??! 🙂
