The City of Brockton’s Diversity Commission is preparing its annual report to be submitted to the Mayor and City Council on the state of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity in our city.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
You have the right to obtain a copy of the report from the Commission once completed. You have a right to submit your Issues to be Included as well. We encourage our elderly, disabled, veterans, and LGBTQ community to attend and discuss issues specific to your community. The public hearing and comment session is Thursday, January 10,2019, 6:00PM – 8:00 P.M.

NON-RETALIATION AND WHISTLEBLOWER STATEMENT FOR MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES
There are several Massachusetts statutes, which endorses an employee’s rights, an employer who retaliates against an employee for invoking their rights contravenes public policy. In addition, criminal statutes prohibit perjury, an employer who coerces an employee to commit perjury by threats or reprisal ls also contravening public policy.In both situations. employees are protected from retaliatory discharge.
Disabled Persons; An employee may not be discharged (or discriminated against) in retaliation for filing a report with the Disabled Persons Protection Commission, testifying In a commission proceeding, or providing Information to the commission concerning the alleged abuse of a disabled person. Mass. Gen. Laws ch 19C, § 11.
Discrimination: An employee may not be discharged (or discriminated against) in retaliation for exercising a right under Massachusetts’ laws against unlawful discrimination. Massachusetts prohibits discrimination in employment on the basis of race, color, religious creed, national origin. sex, sexual orientation. genetic information or ancestry. Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 151B.§ 4(4).
