Kids Road Race
May 4, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
The Kids Road Races started over thirty years ago with the intent of offering children an introduction to the importance of physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle. As such, KRR is a youth running program designed for children from ages four to fourteen. The program “runs” for eight consecutive weeks in the spring and another eight weeks again in the fall. Participants pay as they go. The price per race is a family (and budget) friendly $1.
The races are held at D.W. Field Park in Brockton on Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. Runners race over a scenic course of 2.2 miles, culminating in the ascent of the famous Tower Hill. What a sense of accomplishment young runners have when they successfully crest this daunting hill!
Since its inception, KRR has hosted over 640 races and thousands of girls and boys. The program has provided many of its alumni with a strong foundation of self-confidence and a sensibility toward diversity. Families are so pleased not only with these outcomes but also with the affordability of this sporting event. One of the highlights of the Kids Road Races is the concluding race of each series. At that race, runners take part in an awards ceremony in which participants receive T-shirts and trophies. More than that, though, it’s the intrinsic rewards of self-improvement and perseverance that last a lifetime with these young runners.
