Summer Sunday in the Park rescheduled for Sept. 5

Mayor Linda M. Balzotti is excited to announce that Summer Sunday in the Park, a family-friendly activity will take place Sunday, Sept. 5 from noon to 6 p.m. at D.W. Field Park.
The event had been scheduled for Aug. 22, but was cancelled due to heavy rain.
The afternoon-long event will include live music and with performances from Diamonds in the Rough dance crew, DJ Osorio, participants from Brockton After Dark, and much more.
Attendees can sample Brockton’s rich cultural diversity through Cape Verdean, Hispanic, Haitian, and Caribbean foods.
A special kids area will also be set up and will include: a trackless train to ride; Creature Teacher animal demonstrations, a bounce house, and water slide; face painting, and games.
Resource tables from local agencies like the HarborOne Multicultural Banking Center, Brockton Hospital, and Small Smiles will also be on hand with giveaways.
Admission to the event, and parking are free.
This annual event is organized by the Mayor’s office, in conjunction with a planning committee, as well as Project Guardian Angels and Brockton After Dark.

Neighborhood Housing Services to offer foreclosure clinics and counseling

Neighborhood Housing Services, located in the MultiCultural Banking Center at HarborOne Credit Union, 68 Legion Parkway, announces a series of foreclosure clinics and counseling.
NHS works with individual clients, mediating with their lender/servicer to best solve the client's foreclosure issue. The initial clinic starts with information gatehring regarding teh participant's housing issues and registration of NHS with the lender. From there, an individual counselor is assigned to work with the borrower to bring the issue to the best conclusion.
Pre-registration for all the clinics is required. To register, call (508) 895-1782.
Each clinic begins at 6 p.m. and will be held on: Wednesday, July 14; Wednesday, July 28; Wednesday, Aug. 11; Wednesday, Sept. 8; and Wednesday, Sept. 22.

Applications now available for Brockton 2010 Holiday Parade Contests

City residents age 18 and younger are encouraged to participate in two contests to name the Brockton Holiday Parade theme for 2010 and to design the event's booklet cover.
Participants interested in submitting a parade theme are also asked to explain why they chose it. Entries are due by Friday, Aug. 20.
Individuals interested in submitting a parade booklet cover entry must submit their 8 1/2 by 5 1/2 design by Thursday, Sept. 30.
Entries can be dropped off at the Metro South Chamber of Commerce,60 School St.; any of the Brockton Public Library branches, or be mailed to the Downtown Brockton Association at P.O. Box 4306, Brockton, Mass. 02303.
The contest and holiday parade are sponsored by the Campello Business Association, the Downtown Business Association, and the Montello Business Association.

Farmers' Market returns July 9

Mayor Linda M. Balzotti is happy to announce that Farmers’ Market will return to City Hall Plaza, 45 School St., beginning Friday, July 9. The Farmers’ Market will be held rain or shine, every Friday, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. until Friday, Oct., 29.
“This is a wonderful tradition in our city,” said Mayor Linda M. Balzotti. “The Farmers’ Market is a fantastic opportunity for our residents to purchase fresh, local produce and products, and bring those items home to share with friends and family.”
Senior citizens and residents eligible for WIC can purchase items using a discount voucher. The vouchers for senior citizens are available at Old Colony Elder Services, 144 Main St., or by calling (508) 584-1561. WIC-eligible residents can get vouchers at 795 Pleasant St., or by calling (508) 588-8241.
This year will feature produce from four farms across the region, as well as syrups, jams, and plants.
Andrew Gulezian, a representative of the UMass Extension, will be on hand each week providing healthy meal demonstrations.
